Suffolk County is home turf for my private wine tastings. I am a wine expert with fifteen years in the business, based in Riverhead, right here in the county, so this is where most of my tastings start. Most Suffolk County tastings happen exactly where you would expect them to: a backyard patio in Smithtown, a screened porch in Sayville, a waterfront home along the Great South Bay in Babylon or Islip. Huntington and Port Jefferson add harbor views and marina-adjacent decks to the mix, and Stony Brook hosts often keep it simple with a long table set outside. I build the tasting around whatever space you already have, a marina clubhouse deck, a kitchen island, a backyard under string lights, and you handle the wine itself, picked up ahead of time from the list I hand you.

Private wine tastings in Suffolk County cover the North Shore and South Shore towns of Huntington, Smithtown, Port Jefferson, Stony Brook, Babylon, Sayville, and Islip. I am based in Riverhead, inside the county, so every one of these towns sits well within easy range for planning a tasting.

Is there a travel charge in Suffolk County?
There is no travel charge for a private wine tasting anywhere in Suffolk County. I am based in Riverhead, which sits inside the county itself, so towns from Huntington to Islip fall well inside the range already built into the $350-an-hour rate. Travel only gets billed separately past 120 miles from Riverhead.
Suffolk County never comes close to that 120-mile line, so the travel charge on a Suffolk County estimate is always zero. Scheduling works the same way: since I already live and work in the county, evening and weekend dates in Suffolk County are usually easier to lock in than a tasting farther out on Long Island or off it entirely.
Can you host at a waterfront home or a marina?
A waterfront home or a marina clubhouse works well for a Suffolk County wine tasting, especially in the Great South Bay towns of Babylon, Sayville, and Islip. Docks, screened porches, and marina decks all work fine as the tasting space, and I build the format around whatever setup is already there.
Sayville's marina sends ferries out to Fire Island all summer, and that same waterside routine carries into a tasting held right on the dock or the deck before a group heads out for the weekend.
Do you host rehearsal dinners and wedding-weekend tastings?
Rehearsal dinners and wedding-weekend tastings fit naturally into Suffolk County, where waterfront venues in Islip and Babylon and inns around Port Jefferson and Stony Brook already host plenty of weekend weddings. A private tasting the night before, or a welcome gathering for out-of-town guests, works at any group size, from a small bridal party to a full weekend crowd.
A morning-after brunch tasting works just as well as a rehearsal-dinner kickoff, since the format runs on your schedule rather than a fixed timeline, and either one still carries the same three-hour minimum.

Suffolk County runs from the Nissequogue River in Smithtown to the ferry docks in Port Jefferson and Sayville, and that range shows up in how people entertain here. Sayville's marina sends ferries out to Fire Island all summer, and a tasting on the dock or the deck the night before a group heads out has become something of a routine. Huntington keeps a dense restaurant and theater scene going year-round, so tastings there often slot in before or after a show at the Paramount. Stony Brook Village, its storefronts a short walk from Stony Brook University, tends to host smaller, quieter tastings for neighbors who already know the difference between a Cabernet Franc and a Cabernet Sauvignon and want an excuse to argue about it.
Riverhead sits inside Suffolk County too, which makes this the one page on the site that is really home turf rather than a drive.
